A Dying Breed

Am I the only 42 year old woman on the planet that still calls her father "Daddy?"

Recently, some friends of mine were appalled. I was confused. Is there a point when you change what you call him?

FYI: there are over 200,000 images for Daddy on photobucket.com. So SOMEBODY's calling their father's Daddy!

Come on...tell me I'm NOT the only one. And of course, I'm in the South!

You're cool, it's a southern thing. But if you were born north of the Mason-Dixon line, I would be forced to riddicule you mercilessly.

Living here in the South it's pretty common to hear grown women call their father "daddy".

I also have a blog friend in California that always refers to her father as "daddY" when seh talks about him. I think it's sweet.

I haven't spoken to mine since 2004 so I don't call him anything!

But when referring to him it's either "my dad" or "Dave"

I do think it's a southern thing. I've never called my dad that (in conscious memory, that is). It even sounds odd to me when I hear some folks use when praying aloud in church. But,...BUT...I love that southerners do use it. It just sounds right mixed with that wonderful accent.
Blessings,

Michelle: You would? Gah...I thought we had bonded! LOL Meanie!

Jay: I had never even THOUGHT about it. Yeah sweet...that's me!

Leighann: Oh, I'm so sorry.

Toni: Sadly, I'm not quite as drawly as some of the belles they show on the tube...but I'm sure to most folks it would sound all sugary!

I always called my father Daddy, so it sounds normal to me. My father isn't alive anymore, but if he was I'm sure he would still be Daddy to me!!!! Also, with regard to Weight Watchers, I have lots of friends who have tried it and it really WORKS!!!

Honey I live north of the line and I call my daddy, daddy. Just did a tribute to him on my blog...check it out if you have time. He hit a major milestone! He'll always be my daddy, and I'll always be his little girl...and I think I'm quoting country songs.

I'm a Souther girl and I call my father Dad, but I called my mom Momma. She passed away a few years ago. :(
